Monthly Update: April, 2002

 

Regular Membership Meeting  4/3/02 at 6:30 PM at the Hocking Valley Canoe Livery

 

Present: Justein Feinstein (Chair) & Nya, David Hammerstein, Jock Klinger, Chet Miller, Lew Barbini, Martin Hammar (secretary).

 

Minutes:  Motion to accept minutes of 3/02 meeting approved as amended “Treasurer’s Report: balance $604.47 (did not include outstanding check).  Martin asks that the web site be updated with Meeting Minutes, Justein says she will attend to this since duties completed on OCHRA web site.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Beginning balance $604.47, individual dues $10 from Chet Miller received.  No disbursements, ending balance $614.47.  Motion made, seconded and passed to accept the Treasurer’s report.

Meeting:

Old Business:

1.      Ohio Environmental Council - Lobby Day scheduled 4/24/02 in Columbus, members invited to participate.  Motion to endorse petition for stronger regulation of solid waste and contribute $5 for administration costs passed.  Motion passed supporting Sen. DeWine opposition to oil drilling on the ANWR.

2.      Cleanup -  Martin reports letter sent to Hocking County commissioners, and spoke with commissioner, Fred Hawk who offers support from commissioners but asks that the FOHR solicit litter collection grants from Township Trustees first.  Martin will send letters requesting support to trustees and ask for support from BSS with trash hauling again this year.  Jock agrees to follow-up with a personal contact with BSS owner.  Justine and Lew will seek business donations.  Martin to prepare mailing to solicit volunteers.   Justine says Bob Williams is asking other watershed groups to participate.  Justine and Dave picked up 20 raffle tickets to sell.  No receipts from ticket sales turned in to date.  Posters requested to hang at work sites and business, Lew plans to complete one this month.  Martin will send out a press release mid to end of May.  Lew says dulcimer players returning for entertainment, more entertainers needed.

3.      Alerts - Continued concern about heavy equipment crossing in Fairfield county.  Lew reports Columbia Gass continues to cut down trees along stream banks near pipeline crossings.

4.      Clean Ohio Greenspace, Logan Projects - Martin reported letters of endorsement sent to City of Logan & Ohio Public Works Commission.  Members asked to contact other watershed & conservation groups soliciting endorsements, deadline for letters of support is 4/30/02

5.      March River Outing - Martin, Susan Corbett, and Bob Williams kayaked the Clearcreek during high water on Saturday 3/16/02.  The weather was partly cloudy and temperatures were in the mid 40’s.

 

New Business: 

1.      Rivers Unlimited - Motion to renew membership of $60 to Rivers Unlimited passed.

 

Activities:

River Outing - The next scheduled canoe outing is Sunday April 21st, 2002 meet at noon.  Members elected to travel the Clearcreek again if water conditions permit.

Next Membership Meeting - Wednesday, 5/1/02 at 6:30 PM at The Family Fun Center.
