FHTA MINUTES:  7:00 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2005, Olivedale – Lower Level

 

1)     Call to order at 7:08 by Ira Weiss. Attending were Ric Holt, Jim Barrett, Andrew Hall, Larry Smith and Jeff Vandervoort

2)     Approval of Minutes of the September 19, 2005 meeting.

Motion to approve by Ric Holt, seconded by Jim Barrett and approved as amended

3)     Treasurer's report – none available

4)     PR Report. – Rich reported that the health article is in. Jeff will do a report on the bridge when it moves. The newsletter will be put out on the Web and printed copies will be used as a fundraiser. We should do less more often with a couple of articles once a month. Jeff will write about current events with the city trail.

5)     Grant report – nothing new to report

 

6)    OLD BUSINESS

a)     Lancaster Trail – Phase II engineering for crossings is done. The new Lancaster City Engineer started in November, and he has a background in bridge construction. Terre talked to Dick Shore at ODNR about canal land. He will tell us where canal lands are that could be used for trails. A meeting should be set up for January or February with him. The bridge behind Cardinal Foods will be replaced. Trail locations are still being planned. The next construction will be after the bridge move next spring. The Main Street Bridge will be replaced in 06-07.

b)     Amanda Trail – There are still legal issues pending. We need a point person in Amanda; a possible teacher came to mind. A meeting could be held with Amanda Village Council. County Parks could participate. Several other contacts were mentioned.

c)     Columbus Interurban – the owner of a section knows Jeff’s brother and a meeting will be arranged with him

d)     McLeery covered bridge – Move could take place in December. Timbers have been donated to replace rotted ones.

e)     Extending trail to Olivedale and Martens Park – Larry talked to Dave Bogear and Fox trail may be paved next year.

f)       Developing further health links with FMC and rest of medical community (see health department below under new business).

g)     Pay as you grow – nothing new to report

h)     Web site – comments were that it is looking good

i)        Other Old Business

 

7)    NEW BUSINESS

a)     Central Ohio Greenway and Trail Forum 11/3/05 – report (Please review Central Ohio Trail Forum notes under “Links” on the Web site).

b)     Possible Brad Westall meeting – timing was suggested as March or April after next MORPC Greenways meeting with a possible lunch

c)     Potential involvement with County Health Department’s Healthy and Smart Development Project – Ira will contact the Health Department about a cooperative venture

d)     Exercise on Trail – Fairfield Family day was well-attended and a recovered bike was given away

e)     Potential for Fairfield County Safe Routes to Schools program – it was suggested that Peg Mahler from Lancaster and Lisa Reade from the Pickerington School Board be involved.

f)       Preparing for elections – It was noted that elections will be held at the January meeting

g)     Other New Business – None
