Courthouse research
Jeff Vandervoort reported on his findings. At this time, his research raises more questions than those answered. He will continue working on this research and will be in contact with Ohio Rails-to-Trails office. Since land was taken in an eminent domain action, deeds do not exist in individual counties but are in one jurisdiction. Ed Pool and Peggy Mahler also reported similar experiences in their research attempts. Peggy reiterated the need for a script for contacting landowners. With the case statement finalized, this will be the next document prepared. Jeff will invite Nancy from the Simon Kenton Trail Group to a future meeting. Jeff will also talk to AnnaMarie at Ohio RTC for the recreational use statute.
City Plan
David met with Frank Melick, city economic director. The city plan is on the internet at www.lancasterdevelopment.com . Bob has met with Steve Davis and Dwight Andrews of the Lancaster City Council. They are working on a resolution supportive of our group.
ODOT 5
Bob has not received word from ODOT. A letter will be prepared and sent to Tim Shaffer seeking his help in preserving the rail right-of-way through the US 33 bypass project. Also, we need to maintain the "trail set-aside" in House Bill 3 so Tim will be asked to support this.
