Meeting Minutes - April 11, 2001


The regular monthly meeting of the Fairfield Heritage Trail Association was held Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at the Olivedale Recreation Center, Lancaster, Ohio. Meetings are always on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM.

Co-chair Bob Williams opened the meeting at 7:00 PM.

Ed Pool, secretary, posted the minutes of the March 2001 regular meeting at the website. A copy was available for those present to read prior to the meeting. Minutes were approved.

David Scheffler, treasurer, reported a balance of $498.

Old Business

Pancake breakfast update- officers

All reports have been positive. The event was very successful. It was suggested that future events might have nametags filled out prior to the event. It was also suggested that if permission is obtained on a section of the proposed trail, a sign designating the future trail would be good publicity.

Bylaws changes and approval - David Scheffler, chairperson

Jim Barrett and Jeff Vandervoort will serve with David to add finishing touchs to the bylaws for approval at next meeting. These will be available at on the website for prior reading.

Case Statement review - Ira Weiss, chairperson

In the absense of Ira, Bob Williams read the condensed two-page document. This will be posted on website for feedback. Ed will attempt to condense the document to fit on one page.

Bike tour for landowners -committee named, Rick Holt, Ed Pool, Peggy Mahler, and Larry Smith

The original location was changed with a motion from the Athens County Hockhocking Trail to the Licking County Evans Trail because of the topography and demographics of the Evans Trail. The committee will prepare a report and be ready for a fall tour if needed.

Amanda Follow-up - Claude Ford

The presentation was made before the Stoutsville Village Council which tabled endorsing the trail until its regularly scheduled meeting next month. The Clearcreek and Amanda Township trustees have been contacted and will be scheduling the presentation. Jim Barrett has contacted the Johns family but Claude will work with Jeff V. about contacting in writing for the letter of intent for easement and also letter stating permission for FHTA to have right-of-way through Midwest Fabricating property.

Patrons list update - Ed Pool

Ed handed everyone present the list of friends and patrons as it currently stands. Everyone is to submit corrections, additions and deletions to him at the next meeting. He will work at this and present an updated list for use by the group.

Capital Campaign Committee- newly formed committee, members are Claude Ford, Jim Barrett, and Bob Williams.

First project will be a presentation for the Fairfield Federal Savings and Loan, Claude will chair.

New Business

ODOT District 5 meeting- Bob Williams

Rep. Tim Schaffer sent Bob a sample letter for Bob to follow in writing ODOT. Bob has sent his rendition to the proper party in seeking the retention of the rail crossing through the area for the proposed US 33 bypass. He also sent copies to Rep. Schaffer and Sen. Hottinger.

Other

Jeff Vandervoort has agreed to act as legal council for the group. He will be working with Annamarie Kuhn concerning contacting all interested parties. Research is being conducted concerning the land ownership/transportation corridor issue concerning the railroad right-of-way.

Jeff Johnson and Pam Patula will be working at raffle items for the festival. Ed Pool will contact Cycle Connection concerning a bicycle for the raffle.
