MEETING: Wednesday Feb. 11, 2004 7:00 P.M. Olivedale, lower level
TOPIC: 2003 in review
During 2003, the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources Clean Ohio Fund, and the state of Ohio, granted $580,000 to FHTA and other local agencies for construction of a Lancaster bike path. Generous contributions came from The Fairfield Foundation, The Columbus Foundation, Fairfield Medical Center, and private individuals. This funding completes two out of three portions of the Lancaster bike trail.
All taxpayers monies received were monies dedicated by the state for alternative transportation or recreational trails. For the past decade, many Ohio counties received grants from both the State and Federal government to build recreational trails. In our region of the state, Franklin, Athens, Ross, Licking, and Knox have extensive trails. The FHTA, along with all levels of local government helped return a share of the collected taxes to Fairfield County. Thanks go to all the townships, city, and county officials, state representative, Tim Schaffer, and Congressman David Hobson.
A VERY SPECIAL THANKS: To Terri and Jeff Vandervoort. Terri Vandervoort (Lancaster Law Director) wrote the grants that resulted in funding for the recreational trails. Jeff was president of FHTA in 2002 and 2003, helping guide and coordinate FHTA planning and funding.
MANY THANKS: To the volunteers who worked many hours over the past six years advocating recreational trails for Fairfield County. FHTA began with Bob Williams, Ed Poole, and Claude Ford. They were joined by volunteers who steadily spread the word in meetings with township trustees, school boards, city councils, and county commissioners. Open forums were held to inform the public and educational presentations given at schools.
VISION 2004-2005 At the February meeting, please come prepared with four or five objectives you want FHTA to obtain in the next several years.
