What is a public trail?

A multi-purpose public path, in many cases created on abandoned railroad or canal corridors, or along creeks and rivers.

Who builds the trail?

A public agency buys and arranges for design and construction, either using existing staff or independent contractors, e.g., County Commissioners, County Park District, City Council.

Who manages the trail?

Usually a government agency, but some are operated by citizen groups and community foundations.
