Sixteen volunteers of all ages from the Fairfield Heritage Trail Association held an April Fool's Day cleanup on the Phase I portion of the Lancaster Heritage Trail from Forest Rose School to Fair Avenue.

Bags in hand, the group begins our cleanup.

The Group Returns

It's a long, long walk from Forest Rose School to Fair Avenue and we passed a lot of people using the trail pushing strollers and walking their dogs. Lots of dogs. Even a very friendly black lab who wanted to play with us.

Unfortunately, we did not have any usable newspapers or magazines to recycle as we walked past the recycle bin just south of Lancaster High School. We found one shoe.

Only one shoe.

Thirteen members of the Fairfield Heritage Trail Association met at Olivedale on Sunday, March 25, 2001 for the Fox Trail cleanup.  The Fox Trail is a public trail owned by the City of Lancaster Parks and Recreation department, connecting Olivedale to Cenci Park.

Ready to go!It was a grey, blustery day, but all involved had a great time.  The group collected twelve bags of trash along the way.  Some of the group also hiked the newly cleared railbed from the Hocking River trestle to the Rt. 33 overpass.  This section will eventually connect the western portion of the Fairfield Heritage Trail with the eastern section and the section along Fetters Run.   A few also walked the path along the east side of the Hocking, over the trestle, and inspected a potential route along the Hocking to River Valley Mall.

After the cleanup, a pot luck dinner was held at the home of Larry and Kay Smith.  We were treated to a steaming bowl of home made chicken soup (the ten-bean soup we had in November was too much for some of the group!), and various dishes brought by the rest of the group.  A great time was had by all.

Fifteen members and guests of the Fairfield Heritage Trail Association met at Olivedale on Sunday, November 19 for a cleanup of the Fox Trail.   The Fox trail connects Olivedale Park and Senior Center with Cenci Park in Lancaster.
Getting ready to hit the trail

The group met at the south end of the Olivedale parking lot, then walked the trail to Cenci Park.  Along the way, we picked up cans, bottles, paper, and plastic.  We even found part of a trellis and a bicycle frame.  The group collected a pickup bed full of trash along the way.

A group of FFA members from Amanda-Clearcreek High School came with member Jeff Tilley.

After the cleanup, we were treated to cider, coffee, donuts, and Larry Smith's excellent 10 bean soup.
