Lancaster, Ohio - nestled in the rolling hills of Fairfield County - has a rich past, an exciting present, and a promising future. But there are dark clouds on the horizon...

Unfortunately, our area is under attack by companies that are trying to make a buck on the backs of our landowners, and our environment. This area is just beginning to recover from nearly two centuries of environmental degradation, and Marathon/Ashland Pipeline is trying to roll back the gains. Another threat is occuring just west of Lancaster, in Hocking Township. DPL Energy proposes the construction of a powerplant in rural Hocking Township.
Lancaster-Oh.Com is providing websites for local groups opposed to further degradation of the local environment. As you may know, DPL Energy Inc. is trying to get a permit from the Ohio Power Siting Board to build a 200 MegaWatt generating facility just west of Lancaster on Rt. 22. A group of concerned local citizens are working to block the development of this inappropriate development in an otherwise residential/agricultural area.. You can take a look at their website at http://www.lancaster-oh.com/dplplant.
The Friends of the Hocking River are dedicated to preserving and improving the Hocking River and the surrounding area. They were in the forefront of the battle against Lake Hope Asphalt's plans to dredge a section of the river, sponsored the annual river cleanup on June 17, 2000, and work in many ways to improve and protect the Hocking River watershed. You can visit them at http://www.lancaster-oh.com/hocking.
